Desk equipment is used more hours than almost anything else you own, and it is reviewed almost entirely on first impressions. A chair feels supportive in a showroom; the question that matters is what its gas cylinder and foam are doing in year three.

The analyses here are built around consumables and wear. Cost per page rather than printer price. Cost per year of replacement heads, tapes and cartridges. Which component in a chair, a desk or a monitor arm is the one that gives up, and whether it can be replaced on its own.

Ergonomics gets attention where there is evidence behind it, and gets called marketing where there is not.
